Trait Association Studies in Early Segregating Generations of Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp]

چکیده
Background: Cowpea is a major pulse crop in India. Developing cowpea cultivars with high yield and sustainable protein content contributes to food nutritional security. Hybridization followed by careful selection of genotypes from the early segregating populations may produce final cultivar coupled content. Methods: The genetic material used present investigation were derived crosses three i.e., H10 (Anaswara x PKB 3) H11 4). evaluated Department Plant Breeding Genetics, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur during season 2015-2017. Trait association based on correlation path analysis was carried out phenotypic data F2 F3 generations crosses. Result: In generation cross H10, number pods per plant seeds pod displayed significant positive seed plant. 100-seed weight exhibited H11, pods, length, single weight, revealed significant1 generations. On analysis, various quantitative characters showed direct effects yield. Selection segregants contributing likely be desirable for improvement cowpea.

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...

This study was carried out to determine the effects of single infections and co-infections of three unrelated viruses on three cowpea cultivars (one commercial cowpea cultivar "White" and 2 IITA lines; IT81D-985 and TVu 76). The plants were inoculated with Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV), genus Potyvirus, Cowpea mottle virus (CMeV), genus Carmovirus and Southern bean mosaic virus (SBMV)...
متن کاملA Review of Molecular Makers Applied in Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) Breeding
In recent years, with the rapid development of molecular biology, molecular markers have been widely used in genetic breeding of various crops including cowpea. However, molecular researches in cowpea are lack of systematic summary. This review presents an overview of accomplishments on different aspects of molecular markers in cowpea genetic breeding, such as genetic diversity analysis, geneti...
متن کاملMolecular Characterization of Type II Transposable Elements in Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp]
Previous genetic studies in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] have shown that an active bipartite transposable element (TE) is responsible for a range of mutant phenotypes of its leaf, stem and flower. Since type II TEs have not been characterized at the molecular level in cowpea, this study was initiated to survey the presence of type II TEs in the cowpea genome. Type II TEs: Enhancer/Suppr...
